Personal profile
Bhagirath Choudhary was born on 1 June 1954 in Manpura, a village in Ajmer district, Rajasthan. His official Lok Sabha biography names his father as the late Ramchandra Choudhary and his mother as the late Dakha Devi. He is married to Anjana Choudhary, and the couple have two sons and two daughters.
His permanent address is recorded at Madanganj–Kishangarh, the marble-trading town in the north of Ajmer district. The same profile lists cricket and kabaddi among his special interests.
Some secondary sources give his date of birth as 16 June 1954. This website follows the official Lok Sabha record, which gives 1 June 1954.
Education
The Lok Sabha biography records his education as "B.A., Second Year Pass" from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The election affidavits he filed for the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections list his highest completed qualification as Higher Secondary (Class 12), passed in 1972 from the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, at Ajmer. The two records are consistent: he studied into a degree course without completing it.

Parliament records his profession as agriculturist and horticulturist. That background is the thread that connects his constituency, his Lok Sabha questions — his first, in July 2019, concerned subsidies for solar-powered irrigation — and his present office in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Community organisations
Before entering the legislature, he held office in community organisations of the Jat community. His Lok Sabha biography records him as President of the Jat Mahasabha, Ajmer District, from 1998 to 2007, and as Vice-President of the State Jat Mahasabha from 2001 to 2006.
The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly
He served two terms in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, 2003–2008 and 2013–2018, representing the Kishangarh constituency in Ajmer district as a BJP member. In the 2023 Assembly election he again contested Kishangarh, while a sitting MP, and finished third; the seat was won by Vikash Choudhary of the Indian National Congress.

In May 2019 he was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Ajmer, polling 8,15,076 votes and defeating Riju Jhunjhunwala of the Indian National Congress by 4,16,424 votes. During that Lok Sabha he asked 201 questions, took part in 68 debates and raised 27 special mentions, according to Digital Sansad. From 13 September 2019 he was a member of the Standing Committee on Water Resources, and he was also a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
In June 2024 he was re-elected to the 18th Lok Sabha, receiving 7,47,462 votes and a margin of 3,29,991 over Ramchandra Choudhary of the Indian National Congress.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
On 9 June 2024 he was sworn in as a member of the Union Council of Ministers. The President's communiqué of 10 June 2024 named him Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and on 11 June 2024 he took charge at Krishi Bhawan together with the other Minister of State, Ram Nath Thakur, under Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
In that office he answers questions in Parliament on behalf of the Ministry, attends national conferences and campaigns of the Ministry and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and travels to States for reviews and events. The Department of Agricultural Research and Education lists him on its "Meet Minister of State" page. The PMO's list of the Council of Ministers as on 25 July 2026 shows him in the same post.
