A farmer from Ajmer district whose public life has run from the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly to the Lok Sabha and, since 2024, to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Bhagirath Choudhary was born on 1 June 1954 in Manpura, in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, according to his official Lok Sabha member profile. The same profile records his profession as agriculturist and horticulturist, and his permanent address at Madanganj–Kishangarh in Ajmer district.
He represented the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for two terms — 2003 to 2008 and 2013 to 2018 — and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Ajmer constituency in May 2019 as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was re-elected in June 2024.
On 9 June 2024 he became Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The Prime Minister's Office list of the Union Council of Ministers as on 25 July 2026 continues to show him in that post, alongside Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and fellow Minister of State Ram Nath Thakur.

He took the oath of office as part of the Union Council of Ministers on 9 June 2024. The President's communiqué of 10 June 2024 allocated him to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and on 11 June 2024 he took charge at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, together with Minister of State Ram Nath Thakur.
The Ministry has two departments. In Lok Sabha records he has answered questions for both — including those on the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, which sit under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education.

Land between the Aravallis and the plains
Ajmer district lies in central Rajasthan, ringed by the Aravalli ranges and drained by rivers including the Banas, Khari and Sagarmati. Its agriculture is classed in the Semi-Arid Eastern Plains agro-climatic zone: bajra, jowar and guar in the kharif season; wheat, mustard and gram in the rabi.
The city was founded under the Chauhan rulers, passed through the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughals, the Marathas and British rule as the province of Ajmer-Merwara, and became part of Rajasthan in 1956. It is home to the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, and the lake town of Pushkar lies close by.
